About Me(g)

Ciao!

My name is Meg and I’m an Italian musician and singer now based in the United States. Megviolin is my stage name: it comes from the abbreviation of my real name (Maria Elisa Grosso as M.E.G.) and the instrument I’m specialized in, the violin.

I spent the first 24 years of my life in my home country (northern Italy) and then, due to my husband job, I moved to the United States; we live in a small town in North Carolina with our son and two kitties. My work life is divided between teaching and performing, with lots of different projects in the middle. I’m enjoying my new American life so far!

What I do

VIOLIN: I play violin, I got a degree in Italian conservatory and performed with lots of symphonic orchestras, quartets and ensembles for years.
OPERA SINGER: I got a degree in opera voice in Italian conservatory as well and I love to use my voice to explore not-so-well-known repertoires or adapt it into different music styles.
VIOLA: I’m a self-taught viola player, I attended many specialization course and I performed with many symphonic orchestras as violist.
FIDDLE: Just after my “classical” violin degree, I decided I wanted to go into fiddle, so I flew to the Appalachian mountains and practised bluegrass and old-time fiddle repertoires.
TEACHER: I teach several private music schools and I have my own studio as well, the Meg Music Studio.
I teach violin, fiddle, viola and voice for all levels and piano for beginners and I’m a trained teacher of the O’Connor Method (www.oconnormethod.com)
My youngest student is 4 and my oldest student is 67, so every age is good to learn an instrument!
I also speak spanish during lessons for the latino community.
PERFORMER: I play electric violin and I have an active agenda as entertainment performer as well: weddings, cerimonies, wine tastings, art exhibitions, happy hour, dj set and disco clubs.

My Music

I have a YouTube channel (Megviolin), that you can follow, where you’ll find my live performances, tutorials video and cover arrangments for strings and voice from movies, tv series and games’ soundtracks. You can also listen to my music on my soundcloud. If you’d like to listen to one of my live performance, you can click like my facebook page Megviolin and check for local events I perform at.

Blog

Along with my website, I decided it was a good thing to start a blog: sharing my experiences and others’, writing about music and everything that revolves around it: teaching, instruments, performances, travel, people, sounds, tastes, cultures, and informations you’ll see with new perspectives. I’d like for you to find here tips and hacks you’ve never heard before, people you’ve never heard about and places you didn’t visited yet; musicians’ stories and experiences that will make you laugh…or cry; or maybe I’ll offer you another point of view and you’ll come up with new opinions. Life is all about keeping open minded enough to experience different sounds, tastes, sights and cultures.

My hobbies

I own an online Etsy shop you can visit: www.Etsy.com/shop/Megviolin. I sell music themed handmade items (clocks, frames, terracotta pots, jewelry, collars, and more). I don’t have a physic laboratory (my working space is my house), but I have enough working tools to create lovely handmade gifts for musicians or music lovers!
My hobbies are: playing video games with my husband, cooking and traveling around with my son to always experience new places and new activities!
